William Hopkin of Llandeilo

Antique Welsh 8-day longcase clock with arched painted dial with topographical decoration by William Hopkin of Llandeilo, c1860.

William Hopkin was born in 1847 and dial in 1941.  He was recorded in a trade Directory of 1887 at 24 and 41 Rhosmaen Street, with his son Edward.

The oak case with mahogany and inlay and cross banding in other exotic timbers is typical of the locality and period.  The hood has a swan neck pediment and turned columns, above a trunk with a shaped door flanked by canted corners, over a base raised on bracket feet.
